它敘述美國大西洋城成為著名的賭博之城前的故事，聽說第一集才剛播出就大受好評，立刻就簽下了第二季。
故事的背景是1920年代，美國剛剛結束了第一次世界大戰，聯邦政府頒布了禁酒令禁止在這塊土地上販售任何酒類。這個錯誤的政策，導致黑幫組織的崛起與壯大，為了爭奪這塊大餅及地盤，各方人物無不使出渾身解數，黑道變白道，染指各種政治選舉，到最後幾乎到了無法收拾的地步。
是第一季第12集結尾時以當時後流行的舞台劇方式唱的一首歌。剛聽到就很喜歡這首歌，它描寫了這群在大西洋城裡的人，每天沉迷在權力惡鬥及金錢遊戲裡，酒醉金迷，勝王敗寇，當夜深人靜坐下來自己一人時，卻不知道這樣的人生到底有什麼意義。
這首歌用 proposition (提案、議題) 來形容人生，這是很有趣的。想想應該是因為這個影集裡大多講到爭取選票及政治的角力鬥爭，所以才會用這個類似議會提案的字來形容。
